A Simple Way for Small Business Owners to Understand AI
AI can enable you to understand your business better and make better decisions quicker. It can make it easier to manage the operations, finances and sales and marketing of whatever you sell. Here is are a few questions AI can help you solve and how to use it.
How do I know how much to order? How do I choose what to order?
If you have good records of what’s been sold and when for the last one or more years, AI can analyze this data to reveal trends and help you make better decisions about what to order and when.
There are lots of AI tools available, but I tend to use ChatGPT the most. So, I am going to use ChatGPT in this example.
There are a lot of software tools that can connect directly to ChatGPT. I have been playing with AirTable recently and have been really pleased with how it handles inventory. ChatGPT can be connected directly to AirTable to perform the kind of work I’m about to describe. If your software does not connect directly to ChatGPT, you should be able to download a spreadsheet of some sort that includes a list of what’s been sold and when over the last year or more. Once you have that spreadsheet you can make use of AI to help you better understand that data. Here’s how.
Upload your spreadsheet of what’s been sold and when and ask ChatGPT to use that information to answer your questions. For example, if a rep wants to know how much of specific SKU you’d like to order, you can use the history of how much of that SKU (or similar SKUs) have sold in past years. Does Berber carpet sell better in winter than in fall? What styles have been becoming more popular in the last six months? What colors? What is the average price you’ve paid for that style in the past? How much of that SKU do you usually sell in a year? These are questions AI can answer for you in seconds. You feed it information and ask it questions, and it will respond with factual information that can help you make more informed business decisions.
